About the Event: How does NIGHT anchor, liberate, or terrify us? Over the past year, our LABA fellows have been grappling with this thought-provoking question through Jewish textual study and an intense creative process. The result? Thirteen multi-faceted, evocative works-in-progress that explore the mysteries and nuances of night.
14Y’s LABAlive series is your opportunity to experience the fellows’ groundbreaking projects, from audio documentaries to operatic works to sand art designs and more. Come join the fellows on a journey as they go through self-reflection, soul searching, and transformation.
About LABA: A Laboratory for Jewish Culture: LABA NEW YORK is a 14Y program founded in 2007 that brings together a mix of culture-makers to study classic Jewish texts. Through our artist residency program, LABA New York fellows use these studies and convenings to develop new works featured in LABAlive events and performances. Each year centers on a theme of study and artistic expression—2024 focuses on the theme of “Night.” LABA’s goal is to present Judaism’s rich literary and intellectual tradition in a free and creative setting, so that these stories and ideas spark new art and audiences.
