Beyond the Spectrum: Exploring Neurodiversity in the Interpreting Profession
Presented by GLOBO
Date & Time: Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10:00a – 1:00p EST
Location: Virtual via Zoom
About the Event: Neurodiversity is a topic increasingly heard about in the public sphere, and has a real world impact on the interpreting profession. However, the topic is rarely discussed and many neurodivergent interpreters and consumers regularly experience stigma and discrimination due to their perceived differences and actions.
Although neurodivergent interpreters face unique challenges, their skills and lived experiences are assets to the interpreting profession, and the diverse Deaf community that we work alongside. As professional interpreters and interpreter educators, we must evaluate how to balance inclusion and accessibility in order to not only provide the highest quality interpreting services to our consumers, but also to avoid the pitfalls of unnecessary gatekeeping into the profession. Participants will encounter privilege, identity, intersectionality, stigma, & ableism through a neurodivergent lens.
