About the Event: New York Theatre Barn will launch the 19th season of its award-winning New Works Series on Monday, February 23, 2026, with excerpts from the original musicals 90 Seconds and The Only Way Out, and a conversation with the writers. Both musicals are based on true stories that made international headlines.

Rooted in the events of India’s 2001 Gujarat earthquake, 90 Seconds explores how a single moment can change lives forever, and how connection, resilience, and humanity emerge for survivors in the aftermath. Born from a collaboration across borders by Einstina Sneha and Obe Vermeulen, 90 Seconds is an original musical created by writers from different countries who journeyed to New York with a shared desire to tell a meaningful story.

Inspired by the life and works of George Thatcher, The Only Way Out tells a riveting tale of survival, family, and ultimately freedom. Thatcher was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to death in England in 1963, and subsequently served 18 years of a life sentence before being released. The original musical has book, music, and lyrics by Thatcher’s granddaughter, Déa Thatcher (Cabaret), and the presentation is directed by Leia Squillace (Broadway Advocacy Coalition).

The series will be presented at 7PM ET at the Five Angels Theater in NYC (789 Tenth Ave.) and is available for live streaming. Live CART Captioning and ASL interpretation will be available; access services are provided by Inclusive Communication Services. Online ticket sales will close at 6:00 PM EST on the day of the show.
